ZJNUs International Students Take to the Stage

On the night of June 13th the Zhejiang Province G20 Welcoming Celebration & Building the Chinese Dream event, showcasing international students and their artistic sides officially began. The event was held by the Provincial Ministry of Education in the Zhejiang Music Academy. The acts were put together by more than 100 international students from over 11 different schools including Zhejiang Normal University and the Zhejiang University of Technology. Ge Huijun, a member of the Provincial Standing Committee, Zhao Yide, the Party Secretary of the Hangzhou Municipal Party Committee, head of the Provincial Ministry of Education,Liu Xiping as well as other respected leaders saw the international acts as they attended the event.Chen Dexi, Secretary of Zhejiang Normal University Communist Party Committee made an appearance not only to watch the show but to also pay a special visit to the international students themselves.

Throughout the show, over 100 students from over 40 countries gathered on stage to bring audience members a night filled with spectacular acts and display a collaboration of culture from all around the world. International students from ZJNU were one of the crowds favorites due to their performance of Tiao Kui Xing, a dance heavily influenced by Zhejiang culture.Through a unique display of action, language and body positioning, the 15 dancers created a perfect image that complimented music teacher Li Nas original choreography perfectly. The dancers were joined on stage by the traditional Chinese bench dragon(a long dragon body made out of benches and lights) which began interacting with the dancers zhuangyuan hats. The international students interpretation of the deep meaning in this dance partnered with the physically demanding dance moves won the applause and admiration of the audience.

This dance won first prize during the ninth annual Zhejiang Dream international student talent show, which was held last year. The nights host was no other than our universitys Bao Yanan, a Cameroonian master degree student who hosted the event all night.Bao Yanan also hosted the same event just one year earlier, as well as winning first prize in the South China University of Technology poetry recital competition
