60 Years of ZJNU; Guests From Near and Far Join the Celebrations

After a long hard journey spanning over half a century, ZJNU finally welcomed it’s 60th anniversary on April 16th . The university was decorated from head to toe before being lost in an ocean of celebration and activities held  all around the campus.Friends venturing from near and far joined in with the anniversary celebrations, including Xu Hui, Chen Jiayuan, Wang Yongchang, Yang Xueming, Wang Xiaofeng, Xu Ningyu, Zhen Xinpu, Zhu Shaoping, Gong Changcheng, Chen Shuping, Jin Guangyuan,Yao Chengrong, Xu Xianmin, Xi Jianhua, Du Wei, Mei Xinlin, Qian Xiaofang, Wu Fengmin, Hu Jianxin, Liu Jianhong, Hong Gang, Huang Wenxiu, Jin Yibin,Zhao Guangyu, Weng Lumin, and 8000 others.

   At 10:00 a.m the celebrations which were accompanied by the raising of the Chinese flag officially began. The triumphant roar of the Chinese national anthem was played in the newly built “Wenhua Square”(Culture Square).The Secretary of the School Committee, Chen Dexi introduced the guests as well and also read out a few comments written by the Secretary of Zhejiang Provincial Party Committee, Xia Baolong, and Provincial Governor, Li Qiang regarding ZJNU’s education development. A speech was also made by the school’s principal, Jiang Guojun on behalf of ZJNU. He was joined on stage by the Sceretary of Jinhua Municipal Party Committee, Zhao Guangjun.

The meeting was attended by a list of people including: the President of the Provincial Education Department,Liu Xiping; the Deputy Secretary of the Jinhua Municipal Committee, the Mayor of Jinhua, Ji Junmin; the Deputy Secretary of the Quzhou Municipal Committee and Mayor of Quzhou,Du Shiyuan; the Deputy Secretary of the Lishui Municipal Committee and Mayor of Lishui city, Zhu Chen; Leaders of Jinhua city, Huang Jinchao,Tao Chenghua, He Xingren, Jin Zhongliang, Yu Jie, Lin Yixin, Lin Danjun, Zhang Weiya; the Principle of America’s Temple University, Xi Baode(Neil D.Theobald’s Chinese name), more than 50 other foreign university principals, past Secretaries, principals and teacher representatives.

 Chen Dexi stated that Secretary Xia Baolong and Provincial Governor, Li Qiang’s important comments about the school were very encouraging and showed support towards the school. He also said that it gave hope to the school’s future endeavors and it portrayed how much the Provincial Party Committee as well as the Provincial Government cared for our school. The news is enough to inspire anyone, and it certainly gives ZJNU  enough reason to continue striving forward. Standing at this new beginning, the entire school is willing to push forward in accordance with the words written by these two men. Each person is willing to adapt himself to this new challenge, willing to fulfill this new dream, as well as willing to shape a new education revolution. Only by doing this can we strengthen our political consciousness, our overall perspective, our team awareness and our core ideology. Only through strengthening these ideas can we pursue a higher level of technology, meet the needs of this world’s countries, meet the needs of regional development, carry out essential tasks, work hard to become nationally recognized, become a truly outstanding university, create an education system that will leave people satisfied, serve for the country’s strategy measures, aid boost in regional economic as well as make greater contributions to basic education in Zhejiang.

Jiang Guojun welcomed and expressed his sincerest thanks to all the guests who attended the event, as well as sent his congratulations to alumni and alumna located home and abroad as well as to all the teachers and students. He also welcomed old friends on their return home to Zhejiang Normal University.

 

Jiang Guojun stated that ever since the completion of the building process in 1956, the school has undergone several name changes as well as change in components make up the school. One year after another, ZJNU’s staff and students have shown unyielding hard work together, all the while creating a history of dedication and development, successfully realizing the “100 best school” dream, the “comfortable living” dream and other notable achievements. ZJNU has already developed into a well equipped lab for the science majors, a school with bountiful teacher resources & superior teaching quality, a model of success with an abundance of scientific achievement, as well as an iconic school on a national level receiving praise as an exceptional comprehensive. 

Jiang Guojun also said that during the development process, the success of the school begins and ends with the ability to move forward with the times. It helps shape the special qualities shared by people of the school which can be seen through out Chinese people, including being rigorously hard working as well as accepting and improving upon outside influences. The school is pursuing a higher level of education, which can be seen through the all encompassing school motto encouraging us to learn as much as we can and putting it into practice. A motto over time has become even brighter, a motto that has been written in the pages of history.

Jiang Guojun stressed that the revolution of high level Chinese education, especially the construction of first-rate universities and first-rate subjects gave our school an important chance. Schools need to have an unwavering commitment to developing schools with special features. There needs to insist on creating schools with personality, all the while pushing forward to achieve internalization, in turn allowing us all to improve by embracing the world. We need to insist on making effort to develop regional economy, making service to the community and providing aid to collaborative development strategy.

Jiang Guojun also stressed that the first obligation of education is to create a better future. This mission is held on the shoulders of ZJNU. We need to maintain the university spirit, support humanities care, support the mission carried out by all scholars, help make our school a leader in the academic field as well as become a stage to show the world teachers who respect the teaching profession and students who have a passion for learning. We need to abide by the five development concepts; work hard to create a special ZJNU, a harmonious ZJNU, a beautiful ZJNU, an active ZJNU and a happy ZJNU. In this way we can guarantee the position of a school with importance not just in Zhejiang province, but all over the world. In this way we can join the program of “eight advantages eight strategies”, as well as implement a strategic deployment of being rich in physical and psychological and ideology of “creating beautiful Zhejiang and better life” as a way to contribute to Zhejiang.

     Zhao Guangjun represented the Jinhua Municipal Party Committee, the People’s Congress and the City’s Government in offering sincere congratulations to teachers, students and friends of the school. Zhao Guangjun said that ZJNU is Jinhua’s sole high level school and has truly become a shining beacon for this city. ZJNU stands in Jinhua city and has produced a large amount of talent to help promote the development of regional economics and society.

Zhao Guangjun stressed that standing at the starting point for the 13th five-year plan development, ZJNU and Jinhua city fully welcome a new age of development revolution. ZJNU’s talents, rich resources and innovations are all pillars for this new wave of development. We will start use the framework of the city / school cooperation strategy as a method to establish a city & school cooperative meeting regime. This is part of a constant effort to perfect the project work and cooperate in talents-cultivating, key technology as well as platform of technology. This is a way to turn education advantage into a stance of superior advance in talents and technology, and ultimately achieve win-win.

Zhao Guangjun said the 60th anniversary of ZJNU could be seen as a new beginning, a chance to move forward with the city. We can promote a new concept of high quality education through China. Jinhua Minicipal Party members gave their full support to ZJNU, hoping that the school will grow stronger with every step forward it takes.

  Temple University’s principal, Xi Baode, made a speech offering his congratulations on the 60th anniversary.

Jiang Feng, Chen Peide, Zhu Yu, Mao Huayue, Xu Hui, Mei Xinlin, Wu Fengmin, Chen Dexi, Jiang Guojun as well as past Secretaries and Principals met with alumni and pouring the symbol of ZJNU that stands for the hope and great future of ZJNU.

During the celebrations, Shanxi Provincial Party Committee member, Lou Yangsheng, Hong Kong based Central Government Administration member,Li Lu and Liberation Army University of Science and Engineering member Jiang Qianming were joined by alumni e-cards sent to Zhejiang University, as well as Beijing University, Donghua Normal University and brother universities.

The theme of the celebrations was “60 years of students from all over China”. Performances by many generations of people from ZJNU were held as a gift to the school. The performances were a treat for the eyes and ears of the excited crowd.


 A group of elderly people sporting red neckerchiefs were accompanied by music as they entered the stage. These elderly people were the first ever graduates from ZJNU and their class representatives. Their friendship over these years is valuable,” said by Zhou Gemin. These once young faces now aged are a tribute to the school and a way of measuring the schools importance to each and every student. They performed the gradation song and even lead the crowd through a few verses.


  “I am very excited and moved, I’ve come back to my school. I have been home!”The first interviewee was Chen Jiayuan from the Chinese language class of 1974. At the scene of the meeting he gave an emotional reading of a poem he made to commemorate ZJNU. Yang Xueming, a bachelor degree graduate of physics class 1978 recalled  her days in ZJNU, “In my opinion this school was the starting point of my life, during my four years here I went from a naive child to a person with my own ideals, my opportunities in life all came from here.”


  Famous author Wu Xuelang (Writer name Liu Lianzi), graduated from Chinese major class of 2003, acted as one of the new-century student representative during the live interview. Wu Xuelang said that ever since the first broadcast of Zhen Huan Zhuan up until Ru Yi Zhuan and again up until the highly anticipated Xin Yue Ge Ge, every new creation has a strong relationship with her days here in ZJNU. “ZJNU is the place I love the most, it will always be my spiritual home.” Another graduate of Chinese major class 2003 Gao Peisheng also mentioned his days here, “The beliefs that this school gives us is enough to affect the rest of our lives, she helps me become harder working and more sincere as a teacher.”

The first segment of the performances was a spectacular show of sand drawing, poem reciting and dance, all of which reproduced the story of ZJNU’s development history. Songs about the school reflected the love everyone felt for our beloved ZJNU.


 The second segment of the performances, including “The friendship between the Leaf and the Stem”, “Youth Dance”, “You, My Classmate” and “Green Apple Park”, was just as enthralling as the first segment. “Top 10 campus singers” was an array of musical numbers guaranteed to blow you away, all sang by contestants battling it out on stage. Finally a group of ladies from ZJNU all dressed in pink touched the hearts of countless crowd members by performing the song “A Thankful Heart” in sign language.

 

The third segment, a magnificent martial arts show of “Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon” represented the strong spirit of our school. The international students performed a particularly enthused version of “Wakawaka”, which showed the enthusiasm of our school towards all guests. A group of girls wearing traditional Chinese clothing used their flowing dresses and beautiful positions to express a glorious youth spent in ZJNU. Messages from near and far were shown on the big screens, each of which was met with roar applaud from the crowd.

   

A rendition of “North Mountain South”sang by six different people pushed the atmosphere of the show to a new climax. A large number of crowd members were moved to tears. Finally a UAV was flied to represent the dreams of our school soaring upwards into the sky.

   During the celebrations ZJNU held the 5th China-Africa Think Tank Forum, the Chinese-Foreign University Presidents Forum, Basic Education Revolution and Development Forum, Zhejiang Development Summit Forum, Enterprise Family Forum, China-Australia Education Development Forum and a series of scholar related activities around campus. Activities like a musical event by the name of “A Night of Guangnan”, “ZJNU Family”, “School Anniversary Activity Meeting”, “The Same Dream”, “Zhejiang Basketball, Bring It On” and the 5th “Campus Voice” competition were all held to express thanks for a wonderful 60 years in Zhejiang Normal University.
