The Cameroonian International Students inChinaGathered at Zhejiang Normal University
From October 2nd to 4th, a portion of Cameroonian international students in China took part in this year’s spectacular Olympic games right here in Zhejiang Normal University. A large range of sporting events were held including football, handball, the 100 meter sprint and relay races. With so much fun it’s no surprise that this was the biggest event for the Cameroonian students this year with over 80 students taking part. Some even came all the way from Wuhan, Hangzhou, Ningbo, Beijing, Shanghai and Nanjing.
Three events were held on the first day of this two day long event. First was the ceremonial entry, shortly followed by the male and female 100 meter sprint & relay race. Although the competition was fierce behind it all there was still fun being had, and most importantly the students were learning more about what it means to be part of a team. First up on the second day, Zhejiang Normal University went head to head against the girls of Wuhan in the women’s handball competition. Unfortunately despite our team’s extensive preparation and hard work our opponents were still stronger, leading to a victory for team Wuhan. It was a close call for team Hangzhou who just managed to win against team Wuhan in the football match held on the same day.
The awards ceremony was held at the end of the event. The winners were awarded with trophies and medals.
After the competition ended the Cameroonian students gathered together in Star Family on the third floor of Xingyuan canteen to enjoy the postgame party. The room was filled with exotic Cameroonian traditional clothing worn by each student. The night was made up of dancing, singing and having fun, it was truly a night to remember. Atangana Messi Gustave, a postgraduate student from the College of Law and Politics made a moving speech thanking the university for giving the Cameroonian students this chance to come together and enjoy such an amazing event. He also urged his schoolmates to keep working hard saying that Zhejiang Normal University is a stage where you can show everyone what you can do. He also hopes more and more Cameroonian students will be able to come here to study in the future.
