A Historic High: More than 550 New Foreign Students Enrolled
A few days ago, the new students who enrolled and reported to the university for the fall semester enrollment is basically finished. More than 550 new international students have come to our university to study, among which degree students is approaching 300. Today the total number of international students is close to 1,800, the total number of degree students have surpassed last year by 116%. This year, the number of international students, freshmen and degree students have reached a historic high.
Of the more than 550 new foreign students, they primarily come from Asia, Africa, The Americas, Europe of more than 70 countries. Most of the students are studying in the College of Management, College of Mathematics and Information Engineering, College of Biochemistry, College of Engineering, College of Education, College of International Studies, and 13 other scientific and research institutions. This year is experiencing a new intercultural specialty phenomenon in which international and Chinese students are taking undergraduate classes together that are taught completely in English. For example, the undergraduate program International Business and Trade this year has 38 international students, Hardware Engineering has 15 international students, Mechanical Design, Manufacturing and Automation has 15 international students. These international students and Chinese students study and do research together.
International student education is one of the most important elements in the university’s international exchange and cooperation initiative and one of the most important work of the university’s effort to promote its internationalization plan (2014-2018). In recent years, the university has taken steps to streamline the service system for international students. The university’s policies are encouraging the integration of the Chinese and international students on the campus which are very much welcomed by both of them. In order to widen the scale, optimize the structure, standardize the management, and guarantee the quality, the university will continue to increase the strength of the international students educational work and make a great effort to perfect the international students recruiting, service, quality, scholarship to bring about a rapid development in the international education.
