Opening of the International Cultural Exposition and the 10th International Cultural Festival
On 16th April afternoon, the opening ceremony of International Cultural Exposition special for African countries and the 10th International Cultural Festival which was held by International College was open at 1:30. With the warm melody Happy birthday to you, the university Chairman Chen Dexi cut the cake for our university’s 59 years old birthday, and Vice President Wang Jianli announced that the International Cultural Exposition and the 10th International Cultural Festival is open.
Prof. Li Guicang, Dean of our college, made a speech which briefly retrospected the development of the International Cultural Festival over the years and sent his best wishes to the present one. He said: Having been held for 10 years, The International Cultural Festival is playing an important role of providing a place where culture collision appears and communication through different countries starts. This year, our International cultural Experience Platform and African Cultural Show happens to meet with the 59th Anniversary Of Zhejiang Normal University, as a result,a grander celebration is about to begin.
The cultural festival opened enthusiastically with song and dance performed by the African students which was immediately followed by these words from the African students about their homeland: Full segments of wood lacquered in black, and carved into a rough face. Using the natural texture of tree bark as a form of old yet complex painting; the smells of delicious traditional African food permeates the air: the enthusiasm of the African students with brightly colored costumes and passionate song and dance.
In front of the Maruitania booth, a white robe, which was the most simple of attires in a sea of splendid designs, brought quite a few people to stop. Wearing a robe called “DiLa”, Yahiya, a staff of African Studies, held up both sides of the sleeveless robe and said being dressed like that could keep the wearer cool, since their local climate was hot.
An international student from Cameroon, Charles, showed his enthusiasm and generosity towards international guests. He introduced the local conditions and customs of Cameroon and shared the delicious cuisine of his hometown: deep-fried pancake, sauce chicken wing, and yellow rice cake. At last, he said sincerely: “For me, it is something happy to help people of other countries truly know about Cameroon instead of just imagining it.”
True world is borderless. International culture experience display makes multinational culture integrate, through dancing, delicious food,music,costume,crafts,etc. Both teachers and students can richly experience the exotic customs and culture without going abroad. It is meaningful for international students' cultivating and international atmosphere building in campus." Liu Xingxi secretary emphasized.
Now，there are many international students from 47 countries in our college.It is reported that about 1000 teachers and students took part in the “African Culture Exposition”.This exposition set 7 booths for 7 African countries:Egypt,Cameroon,Zambia,Tanzania,Mauritania,Sudan,Congo. Activities are divided into four parts, named African dance show, African style show, African cuisine feast and African trade fair.
